Taisei v1.4.5 Released! 2026-07-03 11:00

This is a maintenance release that fixes some bugs but also introduces a few features and engine efficiency improvements. As usual for maintenance releases, there are no gameplay changes, and v1.4.x series replays should remain compatible.

  • Initial localization support. The game has been translated into German, French, and Chinese. It will try to pick the language automatically based on your system's locale, but you can change it manually in the options.

Translations are provided by the community on a best-effort basis; they may be incomplete and/or inaccurate. If your language is missing or you've found a mistake, please feel free to contribute!

  • Fixed ReimuB crashing the game on macOS. This was a shader translation bug introduced in v1.4.3 with the SDL_GPU renderer.

  • Fixed a few other rare crashes. The Moonlight Rocket bug, which was only partially addressed in the previous version, is now gone for good.

  • Improved compatibility with legacy systems, especially on Windows. The new SDL_GPU renderer works on some older GPUs now and can use either Direct3D 12 or Vulkan. If neither are supported, the game will fall back to the old OpenGL renderer instead of crashing.

  • Slightly updated the Stage 5 background, and rebuilt many texture assets. This change was mostly driven by internal engine restructuring.

  • Updated Stage and Spell practice menus. They look a little nicer now, and the Spell Practice menu displays some statistics. We plan to improve them further for v1.5.

  • Fixed high single-core CPU usage in the framerate limiter. This was a regression introduced in 1.4.3 with the SDL3 switch.

  • Basic support for the Steam Controller (2026) without Steam. For full-featured configuration support, we recommend adding Taisei as a non-Steam game on Steam.

  • Small internal engine enhancements to improve efficiency and memory consumption.

  • Added fangame disclaimer to the main menu screen.

As usual, you can find the update in the downloads section. Unfortunately, the Switch port remains stuck on v1.4.2 for the time being.
